Lunch Discussion: Disability Awareness

LUNCH DISCUSSION: DISABILITY AWARENESS
Please join The Center and Disability Support Services for a brown-bag lunch discussion on Disability Awareness.
Individuals are invited to share and discuss experiences related to the Disabled community. This can be something you’ve experienced as an individual, family member, friend, advocate, or community member. The purpose of the discussion is to bring awareness to issues impacting Disabled individuals in recognition of Disability Awareness Month.
Disability Awareness Month’s original intent was to bring awareness to barriers facing the Disabled community in terms of employment. Historically, Disabled people do not have the same access to employment as others. In 2019, 19 percent of individuals with a disability were employed. In contrast, the employment-population ratio for individuals without a Disability was 66 percent (Bureau of Labor Statistics). While still focusing largely on employment, Disability Awareness Month has evolved over the years. Many organizations use this month as an opportunity to spread awareness to numerous issues and highlight individuals with all abilities.
The discussion is open to all students and employees at Cascadia. Please feel free to come for however long you’d like. We hope everyone can make it!
